Setting the scene
The situation concerned where to obtain an up-to-date, idiomatic translation for a company’s product launch outside the UK and subsequent blog.
The company’s product, being very specialised, correspondingly needed specialised translation in order to be accurately localised to the target export country. As with any product launch, the correct terminology was mission-critical, not least in this case because the intended territory was West Asia (Middle East), therefore also needing right-to-left Arabic layout.
The company’s export sales constituted more than half of their total sales revenue. They understood therefore very well, in order to maximise the projected sales, that the product launch should absolutely not rely on English nor risk algorithm-based translation (artificial intelligence).
Languages involved
Arabic and English.
Challenges faced
- Understanding an overview of the product, its manufacture and specialist applications.
- Placing the translation with a suitably skilled human translator.
- Ensuring the work was completed in-country. This means up-to-date commercial phrasing and current cultural norms are applied.
- Approval by customer’s distribution office in the territory.
- Accurate translation and on-time, to fit in with customer’s product launch.
The Solution
- The customer contracted SEL Business Languages (SELBL) who have a national and international database of professionally qualified linguists who interpret (spoken language) AND translate (written language).
- For total accuracy, SELBL arranged for their translator to have full access and reference to the customer’s portal with its product illustrations and explanations.
- The work was placed in-country including communication with and approval from the customer’s Arabic-based distribution office.
- The work was completed on time and in suitable format for upload to the Arabic portion of the customer’s website.
- The subsequent blog was also to be translated in the same way, based on various usages and specialist tips for the product, regularly updated to keep up with any product modifications and additions.
- The customer was able to proceed with the product launch, enhance the associated blog by full language support and ensure a reliable export revenue stream.
